Often there are discounts for Angie's List customers and the fact there is so much competition, it makes the prices competitive. All business on the site strive for an "A" rating so customer service is paramount.
Make sure to add a review after work is complete to pay it forward for others. This is what makes the site great. Well worth the cost.
Book - Adding on to Your Home in the Information Age
A great guide book for a DIY Addition Build. Loads of trade information (terminology and questions to ask) that you need to know, how to evaluate contractors, negotiation best practices, project management techniques, templates. This book has the details necessary from start to finish. Highly recommended.
Home Advisor
This site is a bit different and free to consumers for one off items. However, as always the free version is limited. The annual cost of $19.99 is worth it. This site also differs from Angie's List in that it possess categories for foundation contractors as well as framers.
Wayfair
Great place for quality fixtures and cabinets for bathroom, lighting fixtures and other items such as appliances to increase the quality of your build. The goal is to use non-contractor grade anything. Wayfair is a premier site for the core items for your new addition.
Lowes
Everything else you may need. Great prices on appliances and flooring. Kitchen cabinet area is excellent within Lowes.
Your Local Building Supply Company
Your local building supply company should be the key source for doing a "take off" from your plans and delivering the materials to include all lumber and framing materials to do your DIY build. Make sure they also quote the windows and doors as they are familiar with the local codes and can save money in the long run.
